Virtual Shoveling
Virtual shoveling is an exercise to simulate the physical demands of shoveling in a controlled, quantifiable way. Load a 45 lb olympic bar with one plate of the specified weight on one end. Construct a barrier of the specified height. Position the barbell so the plate end is on one side of the barrier. Now grip the bar like you would grip a shovel. One hand close to the plate, the other hand back. Lift the plate over the barrier, and touch it on the ground on the other side of the barrier, then lift it up and back over to the original side. This is one rep. Keep the arms straight, lifting with the legs and back.
