Air Squat

Description

One of the most fundamental movements in all of exercise.

  • Keep your weight on your heels.
  • Feet a little wider than shoulder width apart.
  • Keep your weight on your heels.
  • Toes pointed slightly out, so your knees track over your toes.
  • Keep your weight on your heels.
  • Start the squat by shoving your butt backwards.
  • Did I mention keeping your weight on your heels?
  • Squat all the way down until your thigh is at least (or passed) parallel to the ground.
  • Stand back up, opening your hips fully at the top.
  • While doing this, keep your weight on your heels.

This theme of weight on the heels is foundational to all the major barbell lifts. Getting it right in the air squat will make the rest much easier.
